The very day I arrived in Brussels, in the summer of 1991, I discovered the Forêt de Soignes. Since then, I went for hundreds of walks and hikes in this beautiful forest, along its magnificent long straight alleys or its many small trails that follow the curved valleys. A few years ago, I decided to take my camera with me—on almost every walk—in an effort to capture the tranquillity and natural beauty that I see in this place only a few miles from the busy and noisy centre of the capital of Europe. I learned to observe—and to appreciate—how the mood in the forest changes with the seasons, the play of light and shadows when the sun shines through the trees, the open spaces with large, majestic trees, and small details such as moss on a tree or white frost on a leaf.
The photos that I show at the Lines & Curves exhibition are a sample from my Forêt de Soignes collection. I hope they will invite at least a few viewers to go out and explore this beautiful place close to home. Too often we are attracted by far-away and exotic places overlooking the beauty that lies at our doorstep.
